Just minutes ago Jelsoft has released their next beta version of their upcomming version 3 software. Beta 6 on monday the 8th of September, 2003. Beta 6 is available for download on vBulletin.com's members area to the licensed members.
Earlier today we were lucky enough to 'preview' this beta 6 by getting the latest build from Kier and test it out on our live-forum here at vBulletin.nl and over at creations.nl (together with a few more vBulletin members). Hopefully we were able to pick out a few small bugs that they overlooked prior to their release. They should be fixed in this public beta 6.
So feel free to goto the download area and get your copy and update your site!
The coolest thing about this beta 6 is the long awaited editor (wysiwyg2). It works in Mozilla now and this is great news. Good job devs!
Or better, let me just quote Kier:
The most major change in this version is the new version of our WYSIWYG editor. The new version is faster and more efficient, and has the major benefit over the old version of being compatible with recent versions of the Mozilla browser. To use the WYSIWYG editor you should be running either Internet Explorer 5.5 or 6.0, Mozilla 1.3 (or newer) or Mozilla Firebird 0.6.1 (or newer).
In addition, the non-WYSIWYG editor now shares many of its interface components with the WYSIWYG editor for visual consistency. The style of the controls can now be controlled via a section of the admin control panel style editor (http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=6826), so that the controls can be styled according to the style of your own forums if you so desire.
But this is not all, more then 100 bugs have been fixed and features have been tweaked and updated.
Scheduled Tasks & Temporary Bans
Following customer feedback, the interface for the scheduled task (vBcron) manager has been re-written, and a new control has been added to allow you to execute any scheduled task instantly with the click of a button.
Orphan Phrases
Due to the way that the vB3 phrase system works, you may find that after running an upgrade some of the phrases that you translated for an earlier version of vB3 no longer exist, leaving your translated phrases orphaned in the database. A new tool in the phrase manager will detect and fix these orphan phrases. To use it, simply open the phrase manager and click on the 'Find Orphan Phrases' button at the bottom of the form. The system will then guide you through the necessary steps.
Paid Subscriptions
Improvements to the paid subscriptions system for Beta 6 include the ability to work in several currencies.
Long Filenames
It has come to our attention that Macintosh users were having difficulties with some of the vBulletin files due to the length of their filenames.
Usergroup Leaders
Usergroup leaders are now able to view who is in their usergroup as well as remove users in their group.
Attachment Manager
Users may now remove attachments directly from their attachment manager (misc.php?do=attachments).
Check the full and official announcement here (http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php?t=82044)
It will have more information about which templates and files have been changed and/or renamed. Quite useful for the hacking community :)
Other information
On the IRC chat channel Kier informed us that it was too early to tell if there is going to be a beta 7 or if they are going straight to the release candidate. If we have more information about this, we will announce it on our forum!
For now,
Goto the members area and get your copy, it is worth it. I have upgraded my sites and this went without any problems, and so far, all the betas have been running stable.
